Santiago Ruiz Albariño

Santiago Ruiz Albariño

A wine that is synonymous with its creator, Santiago Ruiz, considered to be the father of Albariño. A single varietal wine born from old vines, Rosa Ruiz is devised in homage to the woman who continued her father’s legacy. This is how the long history of this family brings together the past and the present, and projects itself into the future.

Santiago Ruiz is a Rias Baixas wine crafted from native O Rosal grape varieties.
Rosa Ruiz Rosa Ruiz is an Albariño from old vines located at the foot of our historic winery.

Long before the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin existed, wine was already made for domestic consumption in the subzone of O Rosal. This tradition also existed in the home of Santiago Ruiz, where his grandfather, Ángel, was the winemaker. Santiago Ruiz continued the tradition, incorporating innovative techniques, making the wines of O Rosal exemplary in terms of winemaking, drawing out the essence of native varietals. Passionate about his homeland, Galicia, and his wines, he travelled around Spain with his bottles under his arm, giving out samples and communicating his philosophy. This is why Santiago Ruiz became known as “the father of Albariño”.
